А все начиналось именно так...

[b]Начало: 1983-1991[/b]

История группы началась в конце 70-х годов, когда в одной школе в Лос-Анджелесе повстречались Энтони Кидис и Майкл Бэлзари (Фли). Будущий вокалист группы Энтони Кидис к тому времени уже успел вкусить плодов запретной жизни - наркотиков, к которым его приобщил отец в возрасте 15 лет. Низкорослый Майкл сильно комплексовал из за роста, и чтобы стать хоть как-нибудь увереннее и привлечь к себе внимание противоположного пола, решил заделатся крутым и стал общаться с местной шпаной, промышлявшей мелким воровством. Именно от них он получил прозвище Фли(Flea) – блоха, которое прилипло к нему на всю жизнь. Впрочем, похоже оно ему нравится Ж)

Не будем утверждать, что ребята с детства мечтали о музыке, но протусовавшись вместе несколько лет они решили создать группу. К тому времени, Кидис провалил экзамены в колледж, а после ареста отца остался вообще на улице. Фли и будущий гитарист перцев Хиллел Словак как-то встретили его ночующим на какой-то лавке. Что же до Фли, к тому времени это была его любимая идея – создать свою группу с названием «Anthym». Отчим Майкла был джазовым музыкантом, да и сам он играл на тромбоне. Поняв, что на этом инструменте далеко не уедешь, он сменил его на бас-гитару. Гитаристом группы стал Хилел Словак, а ударником Джек Айронс. До этого, они вместе играли в группе «Chain Reaction» ("Цепная реакция").

Итак, в 1983 году на свет появилась новая панк-рок группа. Первое время ребята назывались «What It is», потом «Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem»(что-то наподобие «Чудесные, Царственные Мастера Увечий»), и наконец – [b]"Red Hot Chili Peppers"[/b]. Название было составлено Кидисом из названий любимых баров: Red Hot Peppers и Chili-Willie.
Группа колесила по клубам Лос-Анджелеса и окрестностей с концертами, зарабатывая так необходимый концертный опыт и оттачивая стиль. Группу заметили, и в том же 83-м году был подписан контракт с фирмой EMI на запись дебютного альбома группы.

К этому периоду относится появление самой стебной выходки перцев, по которой их стали узнавать. Выступая в баре «Kit Kat Club», в перерыве между выступлениями, Кидис уговорил парней снять всю одежду и надеть на перцы носки. Так они и вышли на сцену.
Вспоминает Клифф Мартинез:
[i]"Я был в группе, в которой мы просто дружили друг с другом, и никто не занимался серьезно музыкой. Мы назывались Roid Rogers And The Whirling Butt Cherries," В тот день мы выступали в трех клубах, одним из которых был бар Kit Kat. У нас в группе было три парня и три девушки, на всех одеты узорчатые ткани, а парни еще нацепили на себя раковины. Перцы тоже играли той ночью. Возможно, они пытались переплюнуть нас, когда вышли в одних носках. Тогда они сделали это впервые, но успех был невероятный. Помню, каждый старался стануть носок Энтони. На этом концерт и закончился. "[/i]

К тому времени Кидис и Словак распробовали прелесть героина, а Фли бухал за всю группу. Следствием стал уход Словака и последовавший за ним уход барабанщика Джека Айронса. Нужно было записывать первый альбом и в группу пришли вышеупомянутый Клифф Мартинез и гитарист Джек Шерман.


Альбом «The Red Hot Chili Peppers» был выпущен в 1984 году и не произвел на публику особенного впечатления. Наиболее заметны на альбоме 3 песни: «True Men Dont Kill Coyotes», жесткая панк-роковая вещь с мощным, запоминающимся гитарным риффом, не зря вынесенная на первое место в альбоме; «Out In L.A.», давшая впоследствии имя одноименному сборнику 1995 года и песня «Police Helicopter».

Впрочем, несмотря на отсутствие оглушительного успеха, выход первого альбома выдвинул "Red Hot Chili Peppers" из массы гаражных групп на другой уровень. В 1985 году перцы приняли участие в рок-фестивале Open Air Lorely, где в числе прочих участвовали, например, [url="http://www.akkords.ru/band.php?665"]Deep Purple[/url]. Как и всегда их сопровождал один и тот же неизменный атрибут – «Cocks In Socks» или, говоря по-русски, «члены в носках», в чем можно убедится посмотрев фотографии 85 года.

Тем временем, Хилел Словак ушел из "What Is This" и вернулся в группу на место гитариста, в 1986-м вернулся и Джек Айронс, а Шерман и Мартинез соответственно группу покинули. Группа записывает фанковый альбом "Freaky Styley", продюсером которого был Джордж Клинтон, не самый последний человек в рок-музыке. Несмотря на это, альбом. Как и первый, особого успеха не имеет.

Группа неплохо гастролирует: в 1985 году состоялся первый выезд (гастролями его назвать трудно) за границу – в Европу. Группа выступает в Англии и в Германии, в 1986 году – в Канаде. Всего в 86-м году группа дала 32 концерта: Калифорния, Иллинойс, Флорида, Техас, Вашингтон.

[b]Супергруппа: 1991-1998[/b]

Бесконечные гастроли утомили группу и, наконец, ребята решили вернуться в студию. Всем было ясно, что состав подобрался очень сильный, и материала джем-сессий, а также кучи идей было достаточно для записи нового альбома. Перцы поняли, что вынашивают что-то очень новое, то, чего до них не делал никто…

Для записи “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” был приглашен Рик Рубин, успешнейший продюсер работавший с Slayer и Beastie Boys. Вспоминает Рик Рубин: "Впервые мне предложили продюсировать RHCP задолго до Blood Sugar, тогда еще Словак был жив. Они были в очень плохой форме, сидели на наркотиках. Я чуть ли не сразу, зайдя к ним в студию, понял, что не хочу ничего продюсировать, потому что дела с ребятами обстоят уж чересчур худо. Потом мы встретились перед работой над Blood Sugar, и это была как будто другая группа: абсолютно собранная, готовая сделать что-то очень позитивное".

Перцы отгородились от мира в одном доме, где и жили и работали все вместе, лишь Чед каждое утро приезжал на мотоцикле, чтобы поздним вечером уехать домой. В то время из посторонних с ними были лишь продюсер будущего супердиска Рик Рубин и кинооператор, снимавший каждый шаг перцев (потом из этих материалов был смонтирован часовой фильм). Все окна в доме завешаны плотными черными шторами, комната где идет работа напоминает, по словам очевидца «гибрид раздевалки футбольного клуба и девической спальни». Алкоголь и наркотики в доме были под запретом, а Кидис постоянно пичкал себя разного рода травяными настойками и экстрактами. Впрочем, энергии и так было хоть отбавляй и в сентябре 1992 года публике был явлен новый шедевр, в одно мгновение взорвавший хит парады.
